"The Rise of Pitbull: Uncovering the Success Story of Armando Christian Perez"

The Cuban musician who I chose to was Armando Christian Perez, professional known to the world as Pitbull. Pitbull was born in the United States to Cuban immigrant parents. His parents encouraged him to live in the U.S because their family had a history of fighting against the Castro regime in Cuba. When Pitbull was three years old he could recite the words of Cuban national hero and poet Jose Marti in Spanish. He was inspired by Celia Cruz and Willy Chirico. Pitbull mentioned that growing up around so many cultures has allowed him to think out of the box and try new sounds and new things. Pitbull genres are Latin hip hop, reggaetón pop rap and pop. Pitbull signed his first contract in 2001 to Luther Campbell's Luke Records by Julian Boothe. He then was introduced to Robert Fernandez of Famous Artist Music and Management which was an independent label and management company specializing in developing artist by the Diaz Brothers. In 2004 Pitbull released his debut album M.I.A.M.I with the lead single being "Culo" produced by Lil Jon an the Diaz Brothers. I really enjoyed how he mixed his cultural Latin music with rap. Pitbull music at that time was considered different which made him blow up fast especially in the Latin community.

Hi Monica,

I used to love listening to Pitbull especially since he'd be featured in a lot of different songs. It was nice to read about him not only as a musician but learning about his Cuban roots.

Hello Monica,

I loved Pitfall growing up. I really enjoyed reading your blog post because it taught me more about him than what I once knew before. Music is so influential and it is amazing how many different cultures express things through their kinds of music so differently.

Hi Monica,

I never realized Pitbull was Cuban your post really took me by surprise! I like how you spoke about more of a modern artist. He was likely inspired by older generations of artists and future generations will likely be inspired by him. Music is a never-ending cycle of cultural and artistic exchange!
