I believe that we should conclude class by discussing reparations because I believe in it. I truly believe reparation is a foundation for those who have wrongly committed egregious acts against another. However, just admitting and offer monetary payments does not fully hold the wrongdoer accountable for his or her wrong actions. Monetary payments, verbal apologies, and any combination of the two does not always provide a proper avenue for mental healing. With all that we have covered over this semester reparations fits in perfectly. The first speaker Ta-nehisi Coates made sense to me when he said, "you should not be tied to the hold of pass events". We can't get back what was taken from us, we have to move forward.

I enjoyed reading your posts. I agree that we should end the class with reparations because we are due some economic and financial pay back for the free and forced contributions we made to erect this country. We should not give up the fight for what is due to us.
Hi Monica,
I enjoyed reading your post because I read fewer people in favor of discussing reparations to conclude our class. Coates' statement is definitely important! The legacy of slavery is still impacting black people today and that makes reparations even more necessary.
This is a huge conversation, and we will definitely be talking about it for years to come. I do feel that we as a people can provide and take care of our own, but a little help would be greatly appreciated! There are so many mixed feelings about how we should be paid. Some do not want a handout and others say give us what is due to us for the pain and suffering inflicted on our ancestors. I think we should continue to have these talks and present our cases to those in power and demand a resolution!
