Examining the Deep-rooted Divide: Understanding the DR and Haiti Relationship

After watching both documentaries I now see a different picture of Haiti. The media gives you a completely different image of Haiti. As for the DR the media is pretty much on point with images. I really enjoyed Haiti: A Side the Media Won't Show You. That was the perfect name for that documentary because I learned so much in watching it. Haiti is a beautiful island with so much to see and do. The Passport Heavy team did a phenomenal job in adverting Haiti. They went so in-depth on the island. I love there energy and the love for going on there venture. They went into the different neighborhoods exploring there cultural living conditions. The gentlemen talked to the residents, they shared the different smells on the island. As they traveled through the island the gentlemen shared there own experiences with the island. You can see the beauty of the island as they go through the venture. The Passport team gave us hands on experiences with showing us the grocery stores, banks and even the night life. They traveled through the village and pointed out the satellite dish in the trees and donkey rides. It makes you want to visit Haiti. The realism that was displayed gave you a better understanding of Haiti than what the media does. Haiti (Divided Island) really did not give a good vision of both DR and Haiti. It only talked about the politics of the islands and how badly Haitians were treated. The Vox media touched on Haiti and how it was the first black republic and how the world viewed them as ugly. They didn't go into the personal life like the other documentaries. I believe Haiti controls the narrative out of the both islands. Great history lesson on both Haiti and DR. Many stories about the two islands but I found this particular one very interesting.

The information presented on Haiti and Dominican Republic by both Passport Heavy and Vox was very insightful to me. I always feel that we must be careful in watching who is telling the story. Everyone has an opinion and should be free to express themselves. However, when it comes to Haiti my heart just melts, I adore Haiti. For many years now I have studied Haiti, and the history is very important to our people as a whole and we have to protect Haiti at all costs!
